The recently concluded Beijing Book Fair witnessed an unprecedented surge in attendance, boasting a record-breaking 100,000 visits. The flourishing state of China’s book market was evident, with 720 exhibitors showcasing a staggering 400,000 books, drawing a diverse crowd of publishers, authors, and avid readers to partake in the literary extravaganza.

Amidst the nearly 400 events held during the fair, the spotlight shone on numerous activities celebrating traditional culture and historical themes, capturing the imagination of attendees.

A notable highlight was the introduction of a six-volume book series delving into Chinese culture. This comprehensive exploration covered literature, painting, calligraphy, music, drama, architecture, and aesthetics, providing readers with a rich understanding of the cultural tapestry.

Children’s literature emerged as a vibrant force, injecting new life into the book market and becoming a prominent feature of the fair.

According to the 2023 book retail market report, China’s book market is experiencing a resurgence, with children’s books claiming the lion’s share at 27.21 percent.

Wu Shulin, Chairman of the Publishers Association of China, expressed excitement about the auspicious beginning to the new year in the book market, stating, “At the onset of the year, the book market has embarked on a promising trajectory, and we are thrilled about it.”
