Coronavirus delays Beijing International Book Fair

by | Aug 26, 2021 | News

The 28th Beijing International Book Fair – due to run 25-29 August – has been postponed because of ongoing concerns about the spread of the coronavirus in the city.

A note from the fair’s Organising Committee on the book fair’s website says: ‘Dear exhibitors, readers, and friends from the media and the publishing community:

‘Due to strict pandemic prevention and control measures adopted currently, the organizing committee of the Beijing International Book Fair announces that the 28th BIBF originally scheduled on 25th to 29th August will be postponed to a later date.

‘The organizing committee will closely follow the progress of pandemic prevention and control in Beijing and release the latest information regarding the 28th BIBF as soon as possible.
Many thanks for your support to the BIBF!’

The lateness of the announcement has frustrated many publishers, but underlines the fast-moving nature of the Covid 19 virus and how the best-laid plans can be disrupted.

There is a possibility the fair may now take place in mid-September, but nothing has been confirmed.
