Lindsay Lohan sued by HarperCollins for collecting $365K advance but never writing book

HarperCollins is suing Lindsay Lohan for allegedly entering into a book deal with the publishing company and never writing a book, despite collecting a $365,000 advance.

According to a lawsuit filed in New York Supreme Court Thursday, Lohan’s company Crossheart Productions and HarperCollins entered a contract in March 2014, in which Lohan promised to write a book for the publishing company.

Her book was originally due on May 1, 2015, but Lohan, her company and HarperCollins agreed in 2016 to push back her deadline to March 15, 2017, the lawsuit says. HarperCollins also alleges that it paid Crossheart a $365,000 advance, which was given to Lohan.

Despite this, the lawsuit claims Lohan never followed through.

“The Defendants failed to deliver a complete manuscript for the Work to the Plaintiff by the contractually agreed upon deadline and to this day they have failed to deliver a complete manuscript,” the suit says.

According to the lawsuit, HarperCollins notified Lohan’s representatives in 2018 that her contract was terminated and the company expected its advance back. The actress, however, has yet to return the money, the suit says.

HarperCollins is now seeking the cost of the advance, with interest, as well as the cost of legal fees and “further relief as this Court deems to be just and proper.”

Lohan met with a literary agent as part of her docu-series on OWN in 2014. In the meeting, Lohan tells the agent that she’s considering writing a tell-all book that would incorporate journal entries from her past.

“This is a multi-million-dollar book,” the agent says. “There’s no doubt in my mind. And now, it’s really up to Lindsay to sit down and do some writing and dig up those journals that she has and start putting the pieces together.”
