While many aspiring writers have to deal with rejections before their work finally gets published, a four-year-old boy has landed a book deal for his poems with the publisher Walker Books.

Nadim Shamma-Sourgen, 4 years old, from the UK became popular on the internet because of his simple yet profound poems and now they will be published in a book next year.

Author-poet-teacher and Orwell Prize 2020 winner Kate Clanchy met Nadim’s mother Yasmine Shamma through their common interest of teaching poetry writing to refugees. That’s when Kate discovered Nadim and his poems which he dictates to his mother.

With his gaining popularity, Nadim now has a Twitter handle @Nadimthepoet for his poems which is handled by his mother.

On July 22, Walker Books announced that they’ll publish four-year-old Nadim’s poems in a picture book which will be illustrated by Yasmeen Ismail.

Denise Johnstone-Burt, Executive- Walker Books, said that she had been “astonished that anyone so young could write such sensitive verse. The poems talk about such important feelings, like love and loneliness, and Nadim finds the perfect words… They are simple, inspirational and have a wisdom all of their own.”
