by | Dec 16, 2024 | News

The Jeddah Book Fair 2024 has opened its doors, welcoming over 1,000 publishers and agencies from 22 countries. The event celebrates literature and culture on a global scale. The Saudi Authority for Literature, Publishing, and Translation organized the fair at the iconic Jeddah Superdome and runs until December 21.

The event offers a vibrant cultural program with over 100 activities, including lectures, workshops, and seminars led by 170 experts from various disciplines. Dr. Abdullatif Al-Wasil, director of the General Administration of Publishing, emphasized the fair’s pivotal role in advancing literature and culture in Saudi Arabia. “The Jeddah Book Fair is more than an exhibition; it’s a celebration of creativity, knowledge, and collaboration,” he said, highlighting its mission to position Jeddah as a historic cultural hub.

One of the fair’s key attractions is the interactive children’s area, designed for ages 2 to 12. This dedicated space features 40 activities, including storytelling, creative workshops, animation, and theater, offering an engaging experience for young minds. Manga enthusiasts will find delight in the Manga Corner, a haven for fans of graphic storytelling, featuring iconic characters.

The Saudi Authors Pavilion showcases the latest works by local writers, fostering dialogue between authors and readers. Additionally, a discounted book area ensures accessibility for all visitors.

This year’s fair also honors the Year of the Camel with a special pavilion exploring the cultural and historical significance of camels in Arab heritage, poetry, and scripture.

Rounding out the experience is a cultural theater hosting performances that blend literature, music, and art, along with workshops and discussions highlighting the richness of Saudi literature and creativity.
