The 14th edition of Alexandria Book Fair is set to welcome more than 150 publishing houses from Egypt and beyond. Themed ‘Thought… Literature… Art… Creativity’, the book fair will take place from March 31 to April 9.
The 10-day literary event will celebrate Taha Hussein, dubbed the ‘Dean of Arabic Literature’ as the personality of the year. It will host an intellectual seminar to mark 25 years of the passing of renowned writer, Yahya Haqqi, one of the pioneers of modern Egyptian literature.
For the first time in the fair’s history, Al Azhar Al Sharif will be participating with a special stand that displays some of its books and research, while Al Azhar’s representatives will take part in some cultural activities.
The fair will have a large exhibit for Saudi publishing houses and cultural institutions, and the UAE will have importance presence too. Also participating in the fair are Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Jordan, Syria, the US and China.

The 10-day literary extravaganza features 100 intellectual, cultural and artistic events involving more than 200 poets, novelists and writers, who will participate in seminars covering a wide range of important topics. Among these are ‘The Future of Arab Culture’, ‘Sinai’s History and Heritage’, Alexandria and the Aesthetics of the Visual Image’. A workshop on writing therapy, a form of expressive therapy that uses the act of writing and processing the written word as therapy, will be conducted during the fair.
