A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Turin in Italy, addressing analysis of ten studies of bibliotherapy, and published in the Italian academic journal Clinical Psychology Review, found that reading, detective stories and novels in particular, can help ease symptoms of depression.
The findings underscored that patients suffering from depression, especially senior participants, who were able to read six detective fiction titles saw significant improvements; almost three times more than others. The titles helped them reduce most of the negative symptoms of depression and anxiety in the long term.
