European Publishers Respond to Kharkiv Press Destruction

by | May 28, 2024 | News

In a resolute stance against the recent hostilities in Ukraine, European publishers have united in condemnation of the Russian attack on Faktor’s printing press in Kharkiv.

The Federation of European Publishers (FEP) has expressed unwavering solidarity with their Ukrainian counterparts in the wake of a devastating missile strike that razed one of Ukraine’s largest printing facilities to the ground.

The President of FEP, Ricardo Franco Levi said “The bombs that killed seven people and destroyed thousands and thousands of books have only one objective, to destroy humanity. The European book community stands with Ukraine. We need to pursue and increase cooperation with our Ukrainian colleagues.”

FEP emphasized its support for Faktor-Print, which is part of the same publishing group as Vivat. The federation urged individuals to show solidarity by purchasing Ukrainian literature, facilitating its distribution to displaced individuals across Europe. “It is crucial to ensure the continued visibility of Ukraine’s vibrant literary landscape,” FEP asserted.

The federation also highlighted its ongoing efforts through initiatives such as Tales of EUkraine, which is backed by the European program Creative Europe, as part of its commitment to supporting Ukrainian literature and culture on the global stage.
