Lisbon Book Fair Opens 96th Edition

by | Jun 9, 2026 | News

The 96th edition of the Lisbon Book Fair has opened at Parque Eduardo VII, bringing together 350 pavilions representing around 900 publishing imprints as part of a cultural programme running through 14 June 2026. Recognised as Portugal’s largest open-air bookshop, the fair attracts thousands of readers, publishers and authors each year and features more than 2,200 events, including book launches, debates, autograph sessions and family-oriented activities.

For the third consecutive year, the fair has maintained the same number of pavilions after reaching the maximum capacity available along the park’s main avenue. Organised by the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers in partnership with the Lisbon City Council, this year’s edition hosts 128 confirmed participants, including five newcomers, while introducing enhancements in accessibility, visitor mobility and on-site services to further improve the overall experience.

The programme features a strong line-up of Portuguese and international literary voices, including José Luís Peixoto, Gonçalo M. Tavares and José Eduardo Agualusa, alongside internationally acclaimed authors such as Samantha Shannon, Oyinkan Braithwaite and Alberto Manguel. Through discussions, presentations and book signings, the fair continues to serve as a vibrant platform for literary exchange and cultural dialogue.

Beyond its literary programme, the fair has expanded its community and entertainment offerings with outdoor film screenings, silent reading experiences, live music sessions and a wide range of activities for children and families. Sustainability also remains a key focus through the “Let’s Plant Books” initiative, which links book sales to reforestation efforts. Combined with extensive food, leisure and public spaces, the event reflects the growing role of international book fairs as dynamic cultural destinations that bring together literature, creativity and community engagement.
