AI and Young Adult LiteratureLead at the 76th Frankfurt Book Fair

by | Oct 16, 2024 | News

The 76th edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair, set to run from October 16 to 20, 2024, promises to be a landmark event in global publishing. Italy, this year’s guest of honor, will share the spotlight with emerging themes such as artificial intelligence (AI), young adult literature, and industry responsibility, as the fair continues to evolve alongside the publishing world.

One of the standout additions this year is the young adult literature pavilion. This dedicated space will celebrate the surge in demand for books aimed at teenage readers, with genres like romance and fantasy being particularly popular. The rise of social media has played a key role in this trend, with platforms helping new authors and books gain visibility and build fanbases.

AI, a hot topic across industries, will take a prominent position at the fair. Néstor Bustamante, global AI manager at Springer Nature, will deliver a presentation on the transformative role of AI in scientific publishing, showcasing how technology is reshaping the way knowledge is produced and distributed. His session, part of “The Hof” virtual live experience, is one of many where experts will delve into AI’s impact on the future of publishing.

Another exciting new feature this year is the gaming business center, developed in collaboration with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. This initiative aims to bridge the worlds of publishing and gaming, fostering new rights collaborations akin to those between publishers and the film industry. By creating synergies between storytelling and interactive entertainment, the fair aims to unlock fresh avenues for creators and businesses alike.

For year-round engagement, the fair is launching “Frankfurt Connect,” a digital platform designed to extend networking and business opportunities beyond the five-day event. This platform will enable attendees to create digital business cards, schedule meetings, and share promotional materials, while also providing tailored recommendations for potential business matches based on user preferences and interests.

As the world’s largest book fair, the Frankfurt Book Fair remains a premier destination for industry professionals. It offers a wealth of B2B networking opportunities, discussions with influential speakers, and presentations of cutting-edge trends. Private visitors, meanwhile, can immerse themselves in author readings, live performances, and a vibrant array of cultural events.
