Simon & Schuster Acquires Dutch Publisher Veen Bosch & Keuning

by | May 9, 2024 | News

Simon & Schuster (S&S) and Veen Bosch & Keuning (VBK) have officially signed an agreement, paving the way for the integration of VBK, the esteemed Dutch publisher, into S&S, a renowned global publishing powerhouse.

This strategic agreement encompasses all of VBK’s publishing entities in the Netherlands and Belgium, along with associated sister companies Thinium and Bookchoice. The move aligns with VBK’s aspirations for international expansion while preserving its operational autonomy. Financial specifics of the transaction remain undisclosed.

Under the umbrella of S&S, VBK authors are poised to access broader global markets through the publisher’s extensive network spanning the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and India. VBK will continue to function independently, safeguarding its editorial integrity. Geneviève Waldmann, CEO of VBK, will maintain leadership of the Dutch operations and join S&S’s Leadership Team.

Both companies share a commitment to innovation, with S&S offering resources for VBK’s growth in technology, production, and distribution. The collaboration aims to introduce Dutch-language literature to wider audiences worldwide.

For S&S, this venture signifies its inaugural venture into ownership of a non-English publisher, strategically expanding its footprint in pivotal regions. Through VBK, S&S anticipates enhanced access to European markets, facilitating streamlined sales, production, and distribution processes.

VBK, having ascended to become the largest book publisher in the Netherlands, boasts a rich history of publishing esteemed Dutch and international authors. Meanwhile, S&S, commemorating its centennial year, stands as a publishing juggernaut with a vast global presence, releasing over 1,300 titles annually across 200 countries.
