The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) 2025, recognised as the world’s largest book fair, will once again transform Sharjah into a centre of knowledge, creativity, and innovation. Running from 5–16 November 2025, this year’s edition features an exclusive series of pre-booked workshops designed to enhance participants’ artistic, literary, and professional development.
Led by world-renowned authors, editors, translators, and creators, the workshops will offer practical learning opportunities for visitors of all ages and interests. With limited places available, these sessions present a rare chance to learn directly from experts who have influenced the global arts and publishing sectors.
Gathering global experts and renowned educators
Among the headline sessions is “What Do Translators Really Do?”, a two-day exploration of literary translation by Professor Lisa Dillman, an award-winning translator. Taking place on 15–16 November, the workshop reveals the creative choices and linguistic challenges involved in adapting works across cultures, guiding participants through the craft of maintaining an author’s voice in another language.
Dr Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, an internationally acclaimed novelist, will lead “Unleash Your Creative Writing Powers & Reflect on Your Heritage” (7–9 November). Over three immersive sessions, participants will engage in guided writing exercises and personal reflection, learning how to transform cultural memory and emotion into compelling storytelling.
For those aiming to enter publishing, renowned editor Sangeeta Mehta presents “From Final Draft to Finished Book: The Editor’s Role in the Book Publication Process” (8–10 November). The three-day workshop offers a behind-the-scenes look at the editorial process, from refining manuscripts to preparing them for publication, giving aspiring authors an insider’s view of the publishing world.
Television enthusiasts can join Matthew Witten, a veteran TV writer of Pretty Little Liars, for “Five and a Half Steps to Pilot Writing Success” on 9 November. In this masterclass, Witten shares his step-by-step guide to crafting a compelling television pilot, revealing what networks and audiences seek in a hit show.
