Saint Petersburg Celebrates ‘Dostoevsky Day’

by | Jul 13, 2017 | News

Saint Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city and regarded by many as the capital of Russian culture, recently celebrated ‘Dostoevsky Day’, commemorating the literary genius who spent more than half his life in the city writing much of his best-loved work.

Fyodor Dostoevsky is considered one of Russia’s greatest novelists, thanks to works such as ‘The Brothers Karamazov’, ‘Crime and Punishment’, ‘Demons’, ‘The Idiot’ and ‘The Cockroach Man’, which are not only classics of Russian literature, but also among the best-selling novels worldwide.

Coinciding with the festival, many Russian publishers released a limited number of premium quality editions of some of Dostoyevsky’s novels and short story collections. St Petersburg also organised a weeklong festival, including seminars about his works and tours to sites mentioned in his stories and novels.
