Rumour has it that the ferocious competition in the audiobook market transforming into a war of sorts between the two tech giants, Apple and Google, after the latter announced that Google Play store soon have audiobooks on sale – a move with which Google aims to gain a foothold in this market segment which is one of the fastest growing in most countries across the world.
Apple has responded to Google’s new move with an announcement that it will be launching its iBooks application in a new avatar, renaming it – Books. The conglomerate revealed that the application will feature one of world’s largest and most competitively priced audiobook libraries in the world.
In a press statement, Google underscored: “The interest in audiobooks is growing constantly in line with the increase in demand for audio content, and most importantly Google users expressed their desire to access our audiobook services, and we will surely fulfil their requests.”
