FILBo 2024 to Honor Brazil as Guest Nation

by | Apr 15, 2024 | News

The Bogotá International Book Fair (FILBo) is set to pay homage to Brazil as its Guest Nation for 2024, recognizing the country’s significant contributions to the literary world. From April 17 to May 2, at the Corferias exhibition grounds.

Edition 36 of FILBo promises a vibrant gathering with over 500 national and international guests representing more than 25 countries, including buyers, exhibitors, and esteemed authors. The official inauguration on April 17 will be graced by Luíz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil. A rich Brazilian presence at FILBo will feature over 60 wordsmiths, graphic illustrators, and editorial designers.

Highlighted authors set to participate include Rosa Montero, Andrés Oppenheimer, Eduardo Sacheri, Irene Vallejo, Satoshi Kitamura, and many others.

Guided by the theme “Read the Nature,” attendees can immerse themselves in lectures, book signings, and explore over 190 stalls offering special discounts. They can also savor Brazilian gastronomy within the country’s pavilion throughout the 16 event-filled days.

This year, FILBo will host seven distinguished literary agents keen on spotlighting Colombian editorial production globally through translations, rights acquisitions, and new versions of local works. Among them, Sherif Ismail Bakr will represent Al Arabi Publishing and Distributing, a Cairo-based editorial company with a keen interest in literature and non-fiction.

As the Guest Nation of Honor, Brazil’s presence at FILBo will spark engaging discussions on biodiversity, ancestral knowledge, the impacts of climate change, and the rich human and natural diversity found within cultural biomes. Covering 3,000 square meters, the Brazil pavilion offers visitors a sensory journey into the Amazon, an endangered territory shared with Colombia.
