Megan Fox’s Debut Poetry: Should Rupi Kaur be wary?

It looks like Simon & Schuster US could have another bestselling poetry title to rival Rupi Kaur if pre-sales of actress Megan Fox’s debut poetry collection on Amazon are anything to go by.

Pre-orders of Fox’s Pretty Boys are Poisonous, which is described by the publisher as “heartbreaking and dark”, are very strong on Amazon.  According to the publisher, the poems “showcase her wicked humour” and also capture her feminism and strong women’s voice to which her fan base responds.

She said: “These poems were written in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence.  I’ve spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins. My freedom lives in these pages, and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what’s been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness.”

Fox made her acting debut in the family film Holiday in the Sun (2001), which was followed by numerous supporting roles in film and television, such as the teen musical comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004).  Her breakout role was as Mikaela Banes in the action film Transformers (2007), which she reprised in its sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). She also portrayed the titular character in the horror comedy Jennifer’s Body (2009), and starred as April O’Neil in the superhero action film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014) and its sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. (2016).

The 37-year-old actor has been in two high-profile relationships throughout her career, including “Beverly Hills: 90210” star Brian Austin Green, with whom she shares three kids, and most recently, singer Machine Gun Kelly.

She has been vocal about the misogyny she experienced in Hollywood and is expected to reference this in her book.  She told Glamour UK: “I think that I was ahead of the #MeToo movement by almost a decade.  I was always speaking out against some of the abusive, misogynistic, patriarchal things that were going on in Hollywood back in 2008 and 2009, way before people were ready to embrace that or tolerate it. And I actually got ridiculed for doing it. I think people just have had time to review that, in retrospect.”
