Days of Translation and World Literature Took Place in Palestine

A number of Arab and international writers, authors and translators have participated in the ‘Days of Translation and World Literature in Palestine.’ Organised by the Palestinian Ministry of Culture in collaboration with Mediterranean Publications, the event was held under the theme ‘Civilization and Knowledge’ and ran from September 29 to October 2 in the cities of Ramallah, Nablus and Bethlehem.

Among the prominent authors and translators who took part in the literary event were Palestinian director, writer and publisher Khalid Suleiman Al Nasseri, owner of Mediterranean Publications; Moroccan writer and translator Mahmoud Abdul Ghani; French poet Vincent Cavalli, Portuguese novelist Afonso Cruz; Tunisian translator Abdul Jalil Al Arabi and Palestinian translator Burhan Al Qalaq.

On the first day of the event, two new books were released, the first one titled ‘Basic Glossary for Literary Translation’ by writer and translator Mahmoud Abdul Ghani. The second was ‘A Nation’s Dreams-about Palestinian Cinema’ by thinker and critic Hamid Dabashi.

A range of topical issues related to literature and translation were addressed during the event’s associated seminars, which were held at a number of Palestinian universities and cultural centres.
