‘Spotlight on Rights’ Grant Recipients Announced

Grant recipients for the ‘Spotlight on Rights’ programme are announced

‘Spotlight on Rights’ grant program, which supports translations from and into Arabic, as well as the production of digital and audio titles, has been announced by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC).

A call for applications was announced at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) in May 2022. It received more than 2,000 applications, almost double the number received last year. In total, 135 applicants from 16 countries have received support so far this year.

As part of the ‘Spotlight on Rights’ grant programme, the ALC supports its mission to promote Arab culture and literature globally and in all fields of knowledge. The initiative also encourages the exchange of book rights between Arab and international publishing houses, to translate more works from and into Arabic, and offers the opportunity to build and develop long-term relationships with publishers participating in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

The programme offers grants up to AED14,700 for printed books translated into or from Arabic, while the grants for conversion from print to e-book or audiobook format are up to AED7,400 for each book.

Since its launch in 2009, the programme has strengthened the relationship between the ALC and Arab and international publishers and has helped publish over 900 books with over 120 publishers in a wide range of categories, such as children’s literature, science, history, and social sciences.
