Discover Mindanao through Zamboanga Books

Zamboanga Books celebrates Mindanao’s culture

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Philippines will host Books Zamboanga from July 27 to 29. Activities will include a book fair, talks on creating and advocating literature, and a workshop on illustrating for children.

Book Zamboanga was organized by the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and Aklat Alamid, an independent publishing house, and the ADZU’s Ateneo Center for Culture and the Arts.

As part of the event, Zamboanga City will also be celebrated as a place of ‘mirahan’ (meeting in the Chavacano language) that brings together different cultures, beliefs, creations, ideas, and narratives.

The expected participants include writers, illustrators, translators, editors, publishers, librarians, teachers, and students.

The talks will cover Mindanao culture and history, different literary forms, publishing, and promoting books and literature. There will be speakers from different parts of Mindanao, including creators, scholars, and advocates.

Running parallel to the talks will be a workshop on illustrating books for children as part of the month-long celebration of National Children’s Book Day.
