University of Texas Provides Free Online Márquez Archive

by | Jan 7, 2018 | News

In keeping with its mission to promote renowned Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez, the University of Texas has announced it is providing a free online archive of 27,500 items in English and Spanish including photos, letters, diaries, manuscripts, unpublished work and drafts of ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ and ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’.

The Harry Ransom Centre, an internationally renowned humanities research library and museum at the university in Austin, bought the material for USD 2.2 million in November 2014, shortly after the death of the author, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.

The archive, which has taken 18 months to digitise, includes the drafts of ten books and a 32-page text which was due to have been published in the first volume of the author’s autobiography. More material will be available online in the near future.
