UAE & Argentina agreement to protect reprographic rights of authors & publishers

A cooperation agreement has been signed between Emirates Reprographic Rights Association (ERRA) and Center for Reprographic Rights Administration of Argentina (CADRA), which protects and promotes creative and intellectual rights, along with reprographic rights.

It stated that each party shall, on behalf of the other, grant a licence to use the rights of member authors and publishers, in order to enhance the cultural exchange between the UAE and Argentina, and promote the creative content.

According to Dr. Alyazia Khalifa, the ERRA’s President, this agreement is primarily about providing UAE libraries with works of Argentine authors and introducing Emirati publishers to Argentine culture. She also indicated that it is in line with ERRA’s initiatives and activities that aim to build bridges of communication with international reprographic rights organisations, as well as introduce its practices and scope to all authors and publishers regionally and internationally.

ERRA was established to protect the intellectual rights of content creators, as a first-of-its-kind organisation in UAE and the Arab region, addressing the challenges related to reproducing works and similar procedures. In addition, the organisation instils the principle of collective management for copyright policies, and supplements the applicable laws in the UAE related to the protection of intellectual property.

CADRA is an NGO (non-governmental organisation) that collectively protects and manages copyrights of authors, Argentine and foreign publishing houses, and provides users with legal access to texts in Argentina.
