by | Feb 26, 2026 | News

The Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) has announced the opening of applications and submissions for publication in the Sharjah Journal for Archaeological Studies, a peer-reviewed academic journal issued under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The initiative underscores SAA’s commitment to supporting specialized scientific research and reinforcing Sharjah’s position as a leading knowledge hub in archaeology and cultural heritage.

The journal is supported by a distinguished advisory board comprising prominent international scholars and experts in archaeology and heritage. The board includes Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), along with Dr. Nuria Sanz Gallego, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo; Dr. Salman Al Mahari, Director General of Antiquities at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities; Dr. Sultan Al Bakri, Advisor to the Minister of Heritage and Tourism in Oman; and Professor Nasser Saeed Al Jahwari of Sultan Qaboos University.

The advisory board provides strategic and scientific guidance to the editorial team, shaping editorial policies, strengthening academic quality standards, and ensuring adherence to international publishing ethics. It also supports the journal’s regional and global outreach and proposes research themes aligned with developments in archaeological and heritage studies.

Commenting on the announcement, His Excellency Eisa Yousif, Director General of SAA, emphasized that opening submissions reflects the Authority’s dedication to offering a reliable scientific platform that advances archaeological research internationally. He noted that the journal embodies Sharjah’s vision of supporting knowledge and preserving cultural heritage, while attracting researchers worldwide and fostering scientific dialogue.

The Sharjah Journal for Archaeological Studies is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed publication dedicated to research on archaeology, civilization, and tangible cultural heritage in the Arabian Peninsula and its coastal regions, from prehistoric through Islamic and modern periods. It is published twice annually in Arabic and English, in print and digital formats, under an open-access model. All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure high academic standards.
