A group of young Moroccans in Marrakesh, southern Morocco, launched a unique initiative to distribute free books to the city’s residents during Ramadan, to encourage them to read throughout the holy month and invest their time in acquiring knowledge in various fields.

The organisers of the initiative wore traditional clothing of Moroccan water sellers –who used to deliver water in water carriers in ancient times, while simultaneously distributing books to passersby on the city’s streets.

The good gesture received praise and support Marrakesh’s residents and public officials, while several publishers extended their support to the initiative by offering free collections of books to ensure its sustainability.
