Mamai’s Tale: A Story Kazakhstan Won’t Tell!

The Bostandyk District Court of Almaty in Kazakhstan has issued a verdict stating that Zhanbolat Mamai, the leader of the unregistered Democratic Party of Kazakhstan, is prohibited from publishing a book he authored.

This decision comes as a response to Mamai’s request for clarification regarding the terms of his suspended six-year prison sentence, which he received in April 2023. He had been charged with organizing mass unrest, disseminating false information, and insulting a government official. The court determined that the book in question constituted a form of “public political activity,” thereby violating the terms of his sentence.
