Jeddah’s Book Fair: 1000+ Publishers, Infinite Stories

by | Dec 13, 2023 | News

The fifth edition of the Jeddah Book Fair commenced with a grand inauguration, boasting the active participation of more than 1,000 publishers from local, Arab, and international backgrounds. Unfolding under the theme “Ports of Culture,” this literary extravaganza, organized by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission, is set to captivate audiences until December 16 at the Jeddah Superdome.

Beyond a mere showcase of publications, the fair offers a dynamic program, featuring seminars, panel discussions, poetry recitals, and specialized workshops on comic book creation and Japanese manga. In a concerted effort to champion independent authors, a dedicated space titled “Saudi Author” has been established, presenting an enticing array of over 100 literary works.

Diverse workshops on subjects ranging from fashion and cooking to music and animation are scheduled throughout the event, featuring the expertise of both local and international professionals. The manga and anime section promises an immersive experience, with interactive activities and an array of books and collectibles on display.

Mohammed AlQasimi, the mastermind behind the manga section, revealed the participation of 26 publishing houses, predominantly hailing from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Britain. This vibrant section showcases not only a diverse collection of manga but also life-sized statues of beloved anime characters like Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen and Naruto Uzumaki.

Adding a historical touch to the fair, the Heritage Commission offers visitors a micro-exhibition delving into the rich tapestry of the nation’s history. Additionally, the “Year of Arab Poetry 2023” initiative finds its presence felt across various platforms, enriching the overall cultural experience for attendees.
