Covid delays Beijing International Book Fair for Second Year Running

The covid pandemic continues to cause problems for the book industry in parts of the world.  The 2022 Beijing International Book Fair, originally planned to take place on 24-28 August at the China International Exhibition Centre in Beijing, has now been rescheduled to 24-27 November at the same venue.

A statement from the organising committee said: ‘We would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused by the changes of the book fair, and express to you our sincere appreciation for your continuous understanding and support. We look forward to meeting you at BIBF!’

No reason for the delay is given, but Nasher understands that the organisers of BIBF have ‘sincerely apologised for the inconvenience caused by the postponement due to the pandemic’.

The organising team of BIBF has been in one to one communications with all the international exhibitors about the potential postponement since June, and has help them rearrange transport and logistics related to the exhibition. All the exhibited goods shipped to Beijing have been kept free of charge by the BIBF organisers until the confirmed new exhibition date.

The organisers of BIBF are now in communications with the international exhibitors (including combined stand exhibitors) to help them prepare for the exhibition in November.

The fair was also postponed last year with the event cancelled the day before it was due to take place owing to the spread of coronavirus in the city, which caused difficulties for UK publishers due to take part. It did eventually take place from 14 -18 September both in person and online.
