Brazilian Publisher Introduces Arab Stories to Portuguese Readers

by | Mar 5, 2025 | News

Brazilian publishing house Tabla is introducing more Arab literature to Portuguese-speaking audiences by releasing two novels by Arab authors in February and March. One of them, Wondrous Journeys in Strange Lands, is a young adult novel filled with adventure and life lessons.

The book follows Qamar, a Palestinian girl from a small, peculiar village, as she sets out on a journey to uncover the mysteries of her life. Her search for answers takes her on unexpected adventures, pushing her beyond anything she ever imagined. Written by renowned Palestinian author Sonia Nimer, the novel won the 2014 Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature in the young adult category. Nimer is also a professor of philosophy and cultural studies at Birzeit University in the West Bank.

The second novel, Two Women in One by Egyptian writer Nawal El-Saadawi, was originally published in 1983 and is now available for pre-order. The story draws from El-Saadawi’s own experiences and explores themes of identity and freedom. It follows a young woman’s struggle to break away from societal expectations and live life on her own terms.

With these releases, Tabla continues its mission to bring Arab storytelling to Brazilian readers, offering fresh perspectives and diverse voices from the Arab world.
