The National Library Foundation (FBN) has opened applications for foreign publishers interested in translating and publishing works by Brazilian authors in international markets, as part of its program to promote Brazilian literature worldwide. Project submissions will be accepted until September 13, 2026, provided that the proposed works have previously been published in Brazil. Applications will undergo a two-stage selection process before financial support is awarded to successful projects.
This year’s edition also introduces a new online application platform, coinciding with the initiative’s 35th anniversary. The platform is designed to make the application process simpler, faster and more transparent for foreign publishers, while strengthening the management of data related to projects and authors. Approved projects will receive financial support in two installments, with the second payment made after publication of the translated book.
Since its launch, the program has supported nearly 1,600 projects in about 70 countries and more than 50 languages, including English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Italian and Turkish, alongside a wide range of other European and Asian languages. The program is carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Culture’s Secretariat for Artistic and Cultural Education, Books and Reading and the Guimarães Rosa Institute, as part of broader efforts to expand the international presence of Brazilian literature and bring the works of Brazilian authors to new readers around the world.
