Announcing New Competitions for Publishers and Writers at DIBF 2024

by | May 21, 2024 | News

The Ministry of Culture has unveiled an exciting array of competitions tailored for publishers and writers, during the 33rd installment of the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF).

This initiative seeks to laud and fortify the endeavors of publishers and writers participating in the fair, offering accolades across various categories: Outstanding Publisher (both Local and International), Outstanding Publisher in Children’s Literature (both Local and International), Creativity Award for Writers, and the Young Qatari Writer Award.

Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, Director of DIBF, underscored the competition’s overarching objective to invigorate the publishing domain and nurture a thriving literary ecosystem. It endeavors to beckon publishers, artisans, writers, and intellectuals alike, fostering an environment where authors are emboldened in their craft and aspiring writers are beckoned to the fold, thereby cultivating a culture steeped in the ethos of reading, writing, and authorship.

Moreover, Al Buainain disclosed that the victors of this competition will be publicly acclaimed during the subsequent edition of the book fair, with the tradition being instituted starting this year—each edition of the fair will herald the winners of the preceding edition’s competition.

The cumulative prize pool for this competition stands at 160,000 Qatari Riyals, allocated as follows: 30,000 Qatari Riyals each for the champions of the Outstanding Publisher (Local) and Outstanding Publisher (International) categories, 30,000 Qatari Riyals each for the victors of the Outstanding Publisher in Children’s Literature (Local) and its International counterpart, alongside 20,000 Qatari Riyals apiece for the laureates of the Creativity Award for Writers and the Young Qatari Writer Award.
