The Kalima Project for Translation, affiliated to Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism, issued the Arabic version of ‘Spartacus’ by Roman law professor Aldo Schiavone, which tells the biography of the legendary leader who rebelled against Rome and led the slaves to revolt against injustice in the first century BCE.
Translated from Italian, the book tells the story of one of the darkest periods of Roman society, when approximately one-third of the city’s population were slaves, shedding light on the most prominent rebellions against the empire, and the reasons that enabled Rome to maintain power.
The book attempts to identify Spartacus and delve into his mind to explain his movements and motives. It examines Roman society and the challenges it faced and policies it made to free the slaves and award them Roman citizenship, helping the empire maintain its unity.
