Berlin’s Al-Diwan Book Fair: Bridging Cultures Together

In a vibrant celebration of Arab literature and culture, the Arab Cultural House (Al-Diwan) of the Qatar embassy in Germany hosted the Al-Diwan Arabic Book Fair in Berlin. The event brought together 66 publishing houses from various Arab and foreign countries for a three-day extravaganza. This cultural gathering provided a platform for engaging debates, stimulating discussions, and intellectual sessions focused on pressing regional and international issues, featuring a distinguished lineup of journalists and academics.

One of the standout features of this event was the signing of several agreements aimed at strengthening ties between the Diwan and various cultural institutions, with the goal of fostering collaboration and promoting cross-cultural exchange.

During the grand opening ceremony, Qatar’s ambassador to Germany, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani, expressed his excitement at the fair’s commencement. He emphasized that the fair showcased a rich and diverse collection of titles from over 60 publishers, highlighting the depth of Arabic literature and culture.

Ambassador al-Thani underscored the broader significance of such cultural gatherings, emphasizing that concepts like “world literature,” “meeting of cultures,” and “intercultural discussions” were not abstract ideas but real, tangible experiences for the fair’s attendees.

He concluded by emphasizing that this book fair was more than just a marketplace for books; it was a vibrant space for celebrating intellectual creativity, fostering connections with fellow literature enthusiasts, and, most importantly, supporting Arab publishers in their mission to promote Arab literature and culture worldwide.
