Westport Book Sale Unveils Extraordinary Auction

The Westport Book Sale online auction of several rare and unique literary works that it has received during the past two years.

The auction will take place on Wednesday, September 6.

The auction items submitted by the Westport Book Sale include a letter handwritten and signed by F. Scott Fitzgerald to his publisher in anticipation of the publication of his short story The Case of Benjamin Button, as well as a first American edition of the first book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, signed by author J.K. Rowling.  

The auction is being conducted by University Archives, the online auction house operated by local collector, dealer, handwriting expert and auctioneer John Reznikoff.  These items will be among hundreds of rare autographs, manuscripts, books and sports memorabilia to be included in the auction that day.

“We are beyond grateful to the anonymous individuals who donated these and other works,” said Westport Book Sale Ventures’ President Jocelyn Barandiaran.  “We are constantly awed by the generosity of our community.  The broad variety of donated books, vinyl and other media that flows into our Book Donation Centre on a daily basis provides the foundation for our nonprofit’s business, keeping our Westport Book Shop and our book sale events stocked with terrific offerings for readers of all ages.

  “The proceeds we receive from this auction — and all our book sales — will support our employment and job training for adults with disabilities, and help us to continue to provide funds to support the exceptional programs and  services of The Westport Library.”

 

Westport Book Sale Ventures, Inc. is a non-profit organisaton with the dual social mission to provide meaningful employment and job training for adults with disabilities, while raising support for The Westport Library, through used book sales.
