Sharjah Public Library (SPL), a subsidiary of Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), has launched its Smart Membership platform which enables users to access a wealth of information and resources found in Sharjah Library databases. The move comes to advance their electronic services and provide information in a fast and easy manner.

The smart membership gives access to more than 5,000 resources and E-books, including audio book platform, and the website edara.com, which hosts 600 books, 4,000 essays, 470 consultations, and 150 audio management courses in varied topics. The new membership gives access to Adam Matthew database, which includes more than a thousand manuscripts from the Middle East between the years 1839 to 1969, and also contains a wide range of well-researched scientific content.

The new membership allows users to borrow books digitally, and gives access to ‘Kanopy’, a video-on-demand platform, that offers viewers, a large collection of award-winning films and documentaries. It also includes children’s programming with its subdivision, Kanopy Kids.

Eman Bushlaibi, Director of SPL, said, “The launch of the smart membership is part of our strategic plan to have SPL become the most trusted and diverse source of information and valuable content for readers, researchers and those working in the cultural field in the UAE”.

“Smart membership is available in the seven emirates, in addition to the Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Those wishing to benefit from the wealth of content can register online on SPL’s website. Interested individuals residing in the UAE, need to provide name as written in passport, email, phone number and a copy of their Emirates ID. For those residing in the other mentioned countries, a copy of their passports is needed”, she added.
