Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has over 2,000 Braille books

With the latest technologies and tools, Mohammed bin Rashid Library (MBRL) is committed to integrating people of determination into the public sphere and enhancing their capabilities. The library offers visually impaired individuals a unique collection of books and resources they can read and listen to since they are an integral part of society.

MBRL is committed to integrating and empowering people of determination, including adapting its buildings and facilities to conform to the Dubai Universal Design Code. Among these efforts are wheelchairs at the main entrance, Braille signs on public utilities, audio and visual alarm systems, toilet alarm devices, and evacuation chairs on all floors.

The Library’s People of Determination Information Centre supports and empowers people who are blind or visually impaired. The center offers over 2,000 Braille books in Arabic and English, covering literary, historical, and intellectual topics and references. Elsewhere, the Children’s Library houses a unique collection of purposeful stories gifted to MBRL by the Braille Institute in Los Angeles, Zayed Charitable & Humanitarian Foundation, and Dar Ibsar in Jordan.

A set of high-end specialised devices are provided in the library, which cater to the needs of blind and visually impaired individuals and ensure people of determination enjoy optimal services. The library also offers several supporting devices to facilitate the knowledge journey for those visitors, including magnifiers, reading devices, and Braille printers.

MBRL also included Braille in its cataloguing cards, enabling the visually impaired to identify the topics of books on the shelves using Braille dots. This ensures that all people of determination have access to a customized and seamless public library experience.
