The publishing house launched the first edition of the Kotopia Publishing Prize on April 1, 2020.
The prize is an annual publishing competition that officially began in 2021, following two previous unofficial editions. The house offers monetary awards across the prize’s different categories, in addition to publishing all works selected in the shortlists.
Currently, the prize is divided into three categories:
-
Novel Category:
Twelve works are selected for the longlist, which is then narrowed down to a shortlist of six. From those, three winning works are chosen—each receiving a cash prize, and all shortlisted works are published. -
Critical and Historical Studies Category:
This category is a cornerstone and a point of distinction for the prize, as it is the first of its kind among publishing houses. It also provides an opportunity for academics and university professors to submit their work. A longlist of only five works is announced, from which three winners are selected as the final shortlist. The first-place winner receives a financial reward, and all three works are published. -
Short Story and Prose Collections Category:
A longlist of four works is announced, from which a shortlist of two works is selected and published. The first-place winner also receives a monetary prize.
