About Publisher

Misr Library – also known as Dar Misr for Printing – is an Egyptian publishing house founded by translator Saeed Gouda El-Sahhar in 1932. It was one of the largest and most prolific Arab publishing houses in the Arab world during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, and is considered one of the oldest Arab publishing houses still operating today.

The publishing house released thousands of titles by leading Egyptian and Arab authors and novelists, including Naguib Mahfouz, Abdel Hamid Gouda El-Sahhar, Ali Ahmed Bakathir, Tawfiq Al-Hakim, Yusuf Idris, Youssef El Sebai, and Ahmed Shawqi.

Its biggest markets were in Iraq, Kuwait, and Lebanon. However, sales declined due to a lack of high-quality literary production and political changes that led to reduced demand for books and distribution difficulties across the Arab world. Consequently, the publishing house shifted its focus to printing books, educational materials, heritage texts, and encyclopedias, while continuing to reprint previous works.

It is currently managed by Amir Saeed Gouda El-Sahhar.
