Celebrated British children’s author Jacqueline Wilson is among writers whose books are included in Penguin’s 90 Little Book Stops promotion which celebrates the publisher’s 90th birthday.

The first of 90 Little Book Stops has just opened at Miguel’s Boxing Gym in Brixton, London. The scheme will see book exchange boxes appear across the UK, with further locations set to be revealed throughout the month.

The programme is designed to celebrate individuals who champion reading, support more people to access books and help readers discover new books. A local steward has been appointed for each location to maintain the Little Book Stop, which will run on a “give a book, take a book” concept.

Jacqueline Wilson’s The Story of Tracy Beaker is one of the books featured in the Book Stops. “I’m delighted that |The Story of Tracy Beaker has been included in Penguin’s 90 Little Book Stops,” the author said. “I’d love all children to enjoy reading as much as I do, so a chance to choose and share books in your local community seems a great idea.”

Rebecca Sinclair, chief brand officer at Penguin Books, said: Books and reading have so many benefits, and in difficult times they are often a place where many of us find comfort,” said Rebecca Sinclair, chief brand officer at Penguin Books. “Our 90 Little Book Stops, located across the country, are there to bring communities together, help them share reading recommendations and most importantly, find joy with one another between the pages of their favourite books.”

Other featured titles include The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy (Ebury Publishing), The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman (Penguin Books), Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo (Penguin Books),  and Look Up! by Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeola (Penguin Random House Children’s UK).
