The Palestinian Ministry of Culture has announced that work will soon begin on a project to transform the presidential palace into a national library in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
The 4,700-square-metre library will collect and preserve books, documents, manuscripts and journals relating to the creation of Palestine. Just a few minutes’ drive from the Birzeit University and the Palestinian Museum, the library will serve as a cornerstone for the preservation of Palestinian national heritage and a national symbol for documenting its long and turbulent journey.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the library will comprise special areas for book fairs and sections for numbering, restoration and binding. It will work with national libraries and publishing houses across the globe to start collecting publications and books written by Palestinians and those dealing with subjects relating to Palestine.
