Nigel Newton CEO of Bloomsbury is honoured by the Queen

Nigel Newton, the co-founder and CEO of Bloomsbury Publishing and the publisher of numerous books by Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the Supreme Council, has been awarded the CBE (Companion of the Order of the British Empire), in the Queen’s New Year’ Honours list.  The honour is the next honour below a knighthood.

It comes in recognition of his services to the publishing industry and to literature.  Newton is of course, the publisher of the Harry Potter books and under his leadership the company has grown to be a global operation with offices in London, New York, Sydney and Delhi.

Commenting on Newton’s CBE, Richard Lambert, chairman of Bloomsbury, said: “Nigel Newton’s appearance in the New Year’s Honours List caps a remarkable year for Bloomsbury—one that has brought not just radical changes in working practices, delivered seamlessly almost overnight, but also a continuing stream of really wonderful Bloomsbury publications. The award goes to Nigel, but of course reflects the great work of everyone in the company.”

Newton publishes all five volume of Sheikh Sultan’ memoirs, as well as Tale of a City, his history of Sharjah.  Last year he also received the London Book Fair’s (LBF) Lifetime Achievement Award at the LBF’s International Excellence Awards.
