Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature Goes International

The Egyptian Supreme Council for Culture has announced open the 22nd edition of the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature. This will be the award’s first international edition, allowing Arab novelists and writers from around the world to compete. The decision has been announced the Council approved Minister of Culture, Inas Abdel Dayem’s proposal to Naguib Mahfouz Prize into an international awarding platform that recognises creativity and literary skills of Arab writers.

Launched in the early 90s, the award became dysfunctional in 1999. Resumed in 2017 with an increased value of USD 2,300, it was extended only to Egyptian novelists. Organisers say that the prize value of the new edition will be higher.
