London’s Big Green Bookshop to Close its Bricks and Mortar Bookstore and Shift Online

by | Jan 7, 2019 | News

Tim West, co-founder of the Big Green Bookshop in London, recently announced that the renowned bookshop, which opened 10 years ago in the Wood Green area, will close its doors by the end of January 2019 and continue business as an online bookseller.

The owners of the bookshop, which was one of the active player in London’s cultural scene despite its small size, have become unable to afford the annual rent of £ 10,000, with the decline in the number of actual visitors to the bookshop, in return for the large growth of online sales.

The founders, young people with small families, said they were unable to afford the capital’s high living cost, which is no longer commensurate with their annual income levels. They noted that they would continue to organize events for their customers online and in some public sites.
