IPA Reveals 2026 Innovation in Publishing Award Shortlist

by | Apr 6, 2026 | News

The International Publishers Association (IPA) has unveiled the shortlisted candidates for the 2026 Innovation in Publishing Award, recognising forward-thinking initiatives that are actively reshaping how the publishing industry evolves in a rapidly changing landscape.

Presented every two years, the award honours organisations, collectives, and individuals whose ideas, tools, or practices introduce meaningful change to the sector. The IPA focuses on innovations that are not only impactful but also adaptable, offering models that can be adopted across markets to strengthen the global publishing ecosystem.

This year’s shortlist brings together five diverse initiatives reflecting different dimensions of innovation. Among them is Abbecedario Inclusivo, a fully accessible literacy system that reimagines early reading through a multisensory approach, embracing diverse learning styles as an integral part of education.

Also recognised is Ailaysa Technologies, a company specialising in multilingual artificial intelligence solutions for publishers, and the developer of Chai Reader, a platform designed to enhance how readers discover and engage with books.

The nonprofit initiative Australia Reads has also secured a place on the shortlist. Developed through collaboration between key organisations in Australia’s book sector, it combines research and advocacy to better understand reading behaviours and address barriers that limit engagement.

Another finalist, Shimmr, introduces a new model for book promotion through an AI-driven subscription service, enabling publishers to maintain continuous and cost-effective marketing across their catalogues.

Rounding out the shortlist is Supadu Smart Buy Buttons, a solution focused on improving the reader’s purchasing journey by reducing friction and making it easier to convert interest into actual book sales.

The winners of both the Innovation in Publishing Award and the IPA Champion Award will be announced during the 35th International Publishers Congress, scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur from 5 to 9 July 2026.
