Instagram webcomic star Strikes new book deal

The author and Instagram cartoonist Huda Fahmy, who illustrates the popular webcomic Yes, I’m Hot in This which follows the misadventures of a Muslim-American woman who is ‘trying to navigate her ho-hum life in the least sweaty way as possible’ has just sold her second book to Andrews McMeel, the publisher that has had such a huge success with Instapoet Rupi Kaur.

Her first book Yes, I’m Hot in This: The Hilarious Truth About Life in a Hijab was published by Simon & Schuster imprint Adams Media in 2018.

Entitled That Can be Arranged: A Muslim Love Story the new book is about the author’s experience with romance as a Muslim in America and is written in the same style as her Insstagram webcomic @yesimhotinthis. She said: “Being Muslim means there are set guidelines in place for meeting and marrying a future spouse. This book outlines the story of my relationship with love: my first crush, my first suitor, my first proposal, and eventually my first love.”

The book is set for release in spring 2020. World English Language rights were sold by Kathleen Ortiz at New Leaf Literary and Media in New York.  Arabic rights are still available. Translation rights at New Leaf are handled by Veronica Grijalva.

Fahmy was born in Detroit, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan where she majored in English and minored in political science with hopes of one day becoming a lawyer. She finished one year of law school before shifting to education. She taught English to middle and high schoolers for eight years before she started writing about her experiences as a visibly Muslim woman in America and was encouraged by her older sister to turn these stories into comics. Huda, her husband Gehad, and their son reside in Houston, Texas.
