South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Creative Content Agency say sales of Korean cultural contents exceeded $91 billion last year, compared to $87 billion in 2015, an increase of 5.7%.
The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) is South Korea’s leading government agency that oversees the advancement of Korean creative content, both domestically and internationally. KOCCA covers a wide range of Korea’s creative industries, including publishing, gaming, animation, music, TV shows, movies, mobile phones and much more. It actively drives the industries via production support, marketing and promotion, global expansion, human capital and technology implementation.
The surge in sales volume is attributed to the recovery of the Korean market and proliferation of Korean cultural products across the world, especially China, which accounts for roughly 30% of the total volume of South Korea’s content exports. The Ministry of Culture forecasts that the total sales of Korean content will jump to more than $97 billion this year
