A total of 484 publishing houses from 27 countries will participate in the 49th edition of Cairo International Book Fair, taking place from January 26 until February 10. Also participating are seven Egyptian newspapers and 37 government organisations.

Algeria is participating in this year’s edition as the Guest of Honour under the theme ‘Soft Power….How does it work?’, and late playwright Abdel Rahman El Sharkawi has been named the fair’s Personality of the Year. The second week of the event will be dedicated to ‘Reading at Schools’, which will include reading activities in a number of Egyptian schools, coinciding with the beginning of the second semester of the academic year 2017-2018.
