Booksellers from more than 90 countries are due to attend the fourth Sharjah Booksellers Conference which takes place on 7-8 April in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Among new countries represented this year are Chile, Romania, Germany, Ecuador and the Philippines.
“We are delighted with the response,” said Ahmed al Ameri, CEO of Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), speaking on SBA’s stand at the London Book Fair. “We have more than 550 registrations and sixty publisher stands already taken. It is bigger than last year.”
Among booksellers due to address the conference is Michael Busch, co-founder of the German chain Thalia. Renato Salvetti of Messagerie in Italy is also due to speak. There is also a seven-strong contingent from Nepal due to attend.
