It was one of the largest and most prolific Arab publishing houses in the Arab world during the <strong data-start=\"248\" data-end=\"275\">1940s, 1950s, and 1960s<\/strong>, and is considered one of the oldest Arab publishing houses still operating today.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"360\" data-end=\"634\">The publishing house released <strong data-start=\"390\" data-end=\"413\">thousands of titles<\/strong> by leading Egyptian and Arab authors and novelists, including <strong data-start=\"476\" data-end=\"494\">Naguib Mahfouz<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"496\" data-end=\"527\">Abdel Hamid Gouda El-Sahhar<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"529\" data-end=\"551\">Ali Ahmed Bakathir<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"553\" data-end=\"572\">Tawfiq Al-Hakim<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"574\" data-end=\"589\">Yusuf Idris<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"591\" data-end=\"611\">Youssef El Sebai<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"617\" data-end=\"633\">Ahmed Shawqi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"636\" data-end=\"1066\">Its biggest markets were in <strong data-start=\"664\" data-end=\"672\">Iraq<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"674\" data-end=\"684\">Kuwait<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"690\" data-end=\"701\">Lebanon<\/strong>. However, sales declined due to a lack of high-quality literary production and political changes that led to reduced demand for books and distribution difficulties across the Arab world.
