C\u2019est l\u00e0 qu\u2019il poursuivit l\u2019\u00e9criture de ses r\u00e9cits ferroviaires, apr\u00e8s sa retraite eccl\u00e9siastique. V\u00e9ritable passionn\u00e9 de trains, Awdry y construisit un monde imaginaire peupl\u00e9 de locomotives anthropomorphes, dont Thomas le Petit Train (Thomas the Tank Engine) deviendra la figure embl\u00e9matique.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d\u2019inauguration s\u2019inscrit dans le cadre des c\u00e9l\u00e9brations de Chemin de fer\u202f200 (Railway\u202f200). Sa fille, Veronica Chambers, a exprim\u00e9 la joie de la famille face \u00e0 cette reconnaissance, rappelant que son p\u00e8re voyait ses histoires comme un prolongement de son engagement pastoral. La maison de Stroud, baptis\u00e9e Sodor en hommage \u00e0 l\u2019\u00eele fictive qu\u2019il avait cr\u00e9\u00e9e, comprenait un bureau d\u2019\u00e9criture et une salle d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 son r\u00e9seau miniature, reflet de son imagination et de sa rigueur documentaire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">N\u00e9 en\u202f1911 \u00e0\u202fAmpfield et ordonn\u00e9 en\u202f1936, Awdry avait \u00e9t\u00e9 inspir\u00e9 d\u00e8s l\u2019enfance par les trains traversant le Box\u202fTunnel (le tunnel de\u202fBox). Thomas le Petit Train na\u00eet au chevet de son fils malade et devient un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne mondial, avec plus de vingt adaptations t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9es.
