Carri\u00e8re en d\u00e9clin, troisi\u00e8me mariage au bord de l\u2019\u00e9chec, soup\u00e7ons d\u2019infid\u00e9lit\u00e9, jalousie familiale et scandale imminent, Baum devient \u00e9tranger \u00e0 lui-m\u00eame, au point de parler seul dans la rue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mark Richards, directeur de Swift Press, s\u2019est d\u00e9clar\u00e9 enthousiaste \u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9e de publier ce texte qu\u2019il d\u00e9crit comme \u00ab dr\u00f4le, intelligent, captivant et profond\u00e9ment humain \u00bb. Bien qu\u2019Allen ait d\u00e9j\u00e0 sign\u00e9 plusieurs recueils de nouvelles et d\u2019essais, ainsi qu\u2019une autobiographie intitul\u00e9e Apropos of Nothing (\u00c0 propos de rien, 2020), What\u2019s with Baum? constitue sa premi\u00e8re incursion dans le genre romanesque. Le manuscrit a \u00e9t\u00e9 acquis pour les droits britanniques et du Commonwealth, hors Canada, via l\u2019agence Susanna Lea Associates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La sortie du livre intervient dans un contexte toujours sensible. Les m\u00e9moires d\u2019Allen avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 abandonn\u00e9es par leur \u00e9diteur am\u00e9ricain, Hachette, apr\u00e8s une fronde interne li\u00e9e aux accusations d\u2019agression sexuelle formul\u00e9es par sa fille adoptive, qu\u2019il a toujours ni\u00e9es et qui n\u2019ont pas abouti \u00e0 une inculpation.
