Bien que sa vie ait \u00e9t\u00e9 br\u00e8ve, son \u0153uvre a profond\u00e9ment marqu\u00e9 la litt\u00e9rature mondiale. Figure de proue du mouvement du Mahjar, Gibran a su red\u00e9finir l\u2019image de l\u2019Orient dans l\u2019imaginaire occidental, en en proposant une vision empreinte de spiritualit\u00e9, d\u2019humanit\u00e9 et de sagesse. Install\u00e9 aux \u00c9tats-Unis d\u00e8s son adolescence, il n\u2019a jamais reni\u00e9 ses racines orientales; au contraire, il en a fait la mati\u00e8re premi\u00e8re de son \u0153uvre litt\u00e9raire et philosophique, qu\u2019il a fa\u00e7onn\u00e9e dans la langue de son pays d\u2019accueil. \u00c0 travers son \u00e9criture, Gibran a su jeter un pont puissant entre deux mondes que tout semblait opposer, imposant une voix orientale singuli\u00e8re au c\u0153ur m\u00eame de New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019un de ses ouvrages les plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bres, Le Proph\u00e8te (The Prophet, 1923), devenu un classique mondial, incarne parfaitement cette mission. \u00c0 travers le personnage d\u2019Almustafa, proph\u00e8te en exil, Gibran livre une s\u00e9rie de m\u00e9ditations po\u00e9tiques sur l\u2019amour, la libert\u00e9, le travail, la douleur ou encore la mort. Derri\u00e8re la simplicit\u00e9 apparente du style se cache une profondeur universelle qui transcende les cultures. En choisissant d\u2019\u00e9crire en anglais, Gibran n\u2019a pas cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 s\u2019assimiler, mais \u00e0 se faire entendre.
